Keeping your online presence can seem overwhelming at times. Things change rather quickly in the virtual world, but keeping up with your marketing practices can mean more business! And more business means your company will be worth more when it is time to sell! Here is a very quick checklist of things you or someone from your team should be doing to ensure you get your share of the online traffic:
1. Have multiple pages on your Website. If you only have a home page and a contact page, that is not enough. Between 5 and 20 pages is a range everyone should be able to hit.
2. Ensure your page content is unique. DO NOT copy and paste content from another webpage. If you do, Google will punish you.
3. Use your relevant keywords within your content. There are likely some obvious keywords used in your industry, but there may also be location specific keywords such as your city or state. Don't over use them, but use them where they fit. Having a keyword listed on a page 2 to 4 times is good. Having the same keyword 8 times on a page is "spammy". The ratio of keywords per total word count is called
Keyword Density. Use variations of a keyword to mix it up.
4. Have professional images on your website. This includes your header image, photos of employees/clients, as well as other images you use to get your message across. Blurry and "unprofessional" images can send the wrong message to your prospects. You don't necessarily need to hire a pro, but just make sure they look like that's where they came from.
5. Update your website copy regularly. At least once a month, add a new page or edit some content. This helps let Google know you are relevant.
6. Link your website to your social media accounts and vise versa. This can be done through social icons or just text links.
7. Post on social media accounts at least a couple times a week. There are services such as
Hoot Suite that allow for scheduled posting so time should not be an issue.
8. For the advanced marketer; blogging, guest posting on other relevant websites, creating videos to post, sending our press releases, creating a page to capture emails (through a service such as
Constant Contact), and sending out newsletters are also good ways to increase your exposure online.
